Ms. Peggy Yates is a retired nurse whose life-long commitment and sacrificial passion led to her God- given vision in 2001 as a mentor through the Circle of Mentors, and later in 2003 with the creation of a non-profit organization to help women coming out of prison and recovering from life to obtain job training, housing, counseling and life application skills outside the prison walls.
Ms. Yates has dedicated her life to the service of people, and she has a soft spot in her heart for women. She has learned through her journey that healing a woman from the inside produces wonderful fruit on the outside, and the woman is able to become a loving wife, God fearing mother who loves and nurtures her children, and becomes a productive citizen in life. Ms. Yates is a devout Christian who believes in biblical principles through life application and without God we can do nothing.
The Woman's Roots Inc. was founded on Ms. Yates' passion and Godly guided vision. With the help of several volunteers, Ms. Yates and The Woman's Roots Inc. has provided mentoring, counseling, job training, placement out of prison, and many referrals for other services throughout the community for over ten years. We see over 50 women a month at Plane State prison and 60 women four times a month in the Harris County jail.
Ms. Yates' current vision for the organization is to provide a one stop shop within the community where woman seeking to re-enter society can get all of the services and referrals needed and in addition have a health care clinic, child care facility, and emergency shelter. With the continued help of volunteers, grants and sponsorship, The Woman's Roots Inc. and the Healing Place can become a reality.
